Academic Decathlon
The California Catholic Schools Academic Junior High Decathlon (AJHD) began over twenty years ago under the direction of Dr. Mark Ryan. It started with a handful of schools from the greater Los Angeles area, and has grown to become a statewide event. The AJHD event is the largest junior high educational competition in Southern California for students in 6th through 8th grades. Over a thousand top student "decathletes" participate each year. The AJHD promotes a spirit of collaboration and celebrates the diversity, academic excellence, and tradition of Catholic schools. Over one hundred Catholic schools participate in this exciting event in March each year.
The competition consists of the Logic Quiz (worth 8,000 points), the Super Quiz (worth 8,000 points), and 8 individual subject areas (worth 1,000 points each). The winner of the competition is determined based on the total number of points out of the 24,000-point total.
