Welcome, my name is Luis Gamarra and I am the principal at St. Ferdinand Catholic School.
This year, my lovely wife Emily and I celebrate 25 years of marriage. We have two sons, Kevin (23) and Jonathan (19). Kevin is studying Law at UC Irvine and Jonathan is pursuing a Kinesiology degree at San Jose State University. Both of our sons attended and graduated from St. Genevieve in Panorama City. We currently live in Sylmar and have been a part of the community since 2001.
The 2019-2020 school year will be the start of my second year as principal of Saint Ferdinand. However, I have been an educator since 1998. I started my career at Sharp Avenue Elementary School in Pacoima. I served the Sharp Avenue School community until 2005 as a classroom teacher. In 2005, I went on to serve the San Jose Street School community in Mission Hills until 2008. While I was at San Jose, I served as a teacher in grades 4 and 5. In my last year there, I was the Bilingual and Title I Coordinator of Programs. In 2008, I left the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), to serve the Newhall School District. In 2008, I became the Assistant Principal at Wiley Canyon School and served that community until 2011. Finally, in 2011, I was promoted to principal at Oak Hills School in Valencia and served this great community until 2018.
Throughout my career, I have taken pride in serving all my students to the best of my ability. It is in that light, that the entire staff and I are committed to providing a challenging and dynamic curriculum designed to motivate the academic and spiritual growth of all our students. I truly believe that all students can learn and believe whole-heartedly that it takes an entire village (parents, volunteers, teachers, admin, district, and parish), to make this happen.
Our school is going through some exciting changes and I look forward to working with everyone to make Saint Ferdinand Catholic School the very BEST school in our valley.
Come, and be a part of something GREAT!
